Bring your whole self. Help others do the same.
Carolinas Center is seeking a North Carolina–licensed therapist who wants to do thoughtful, relationship-centered work within a practice that values understanding, inclusion, and sustainability.
We are looking for a clinician who understands neurodiversity, approaches clients from a strengths-based and trauma-informed perspective, and believes therapy should help people build lives that work with who they are—not teach them to hide or suppress important parts of themselves.
-
We believe meaningful change begins with understanding. Many of our clients have spent years pushing harder, adapting to expectations, or trying to manage experiences that have never been fully understood. Our work helps people explore how they think, feel, process information, relate to others, and experience the world around them.
-
We approach therapy with curiosity, compassion, and respect for complexity. Rather than reducing people to symptoms or diagnoses, we seek to understand the full context of their experiences—including their strengths, relationships, identities, environments, nervous systems, and support needs.
-
Clinician well-being is not separate from good client care. We want our therapists to have the autonomy, practical support, and collaborative relationships they need to show up with care, clarity, and sustainability.
We value therapists who bring their own perspective, personality, lived experience, and areas of interest to the work. What matters most is a commitment to thoughtful care, professional responsibility, authentic collaboration, and respect for the different ways people experience the world.
Who We Are
About the Position
This opportunity is designed for a clinician who wants to develop a meaningful caseload of individual therapy clients ages 12 and older.
Clients at our practice often seek support related to:
Anxiety and depression
Trauma and chronic stress
ADHD, autism, and AuDHD
High masking and burnout
Identity and self-understanding
Relationships and family dynamics
Emotional and sensory regulation
Life transitions
Caseloads build gradually, allowing time to establish strong clinical relationships and develop a sustainable rhythm. Clinicians who are interested in creating groups or focused programs that align with the practice’s values and services will also receive support in developing those offerings.
This is a hybrid role. Clinicians may provide both in-person and telehealth therapy, but the position is not available as a fully virtual role.
Neurodiversity-Affirming Care
An understanding of neurodiversity is essential for this position.
We do not expect every clinician to arrive with identical training or expertise. We do expect a genuine foundation in neurodiversity-affirming care, openness to continued learning, and the ability to approach differences without deficit-based or compliance-focused assumptions.
This includes an understanding of:
Masking and neurodivergent burnout
The effects of sensory processing on emotional and behavioral regulation
Executive-functioning differences
Identity-affirming work with neurodivergent clients
Helping clients create lives that work with their needs rather than against them
Supporting parents without blaming either the parent or child
Recognizing neurodivergence in high-masking adolescents and adults
Our goal is not simply to help clients function within expectations that may not fit them. We want to help people understand themselves, build on their strengths, access meaningful support, and create conditions in which they can flourish.
People-First Approach
Support That Lets You Focus on Clinical Work
Administrative work should not consume the energy you need for your clients. Our practice provides comprehensive support that includes:
A full-time practice administrator in the office each day
Client scheduling
Insurance-benefit verification
Billing and insurance-claim submission
A billing specialist who addresses claim-processing concerns
Credentialing and rostering with in-network insurance carriers
EHR and operational support
Clinical consultation and training opportunities
Clinical supervision may be available for associate-level clinicians. Availability, fit, and related terms will be discussed during the interview process.
A furnished office is available in Cornelius. Depending on your working schedule, the office may be shared with one other clinician, but you will have a consistent clinical space rather than moving between rooms from day to day.
What Sets Us Apart
elationships
Flexibility Without a Fixed Quota
We recognize that sustainable clinical work does not look exactly the same for every therapist or during every season of life.
Clinicians have flexibility to determine their working days and hours based on their needs. We ask that therapists offer later appointments one day each week, with the final appointment scheduled at 6:00 p.m. Otherwise, there are no required start times, end times, or specific working days.
There is no required minimum number of scheduled hours or clients. This opportunity is intended for a clinician who wants to build toward a full-time caseload, but the compensation structure adjusts to the amount of clinical work completed rather than imposing a fixed productivity quota.
Proven Process, Flexible
Intuitive Compensation
Compensation is based on the average number of attended sessions per week during the prior month. Clinicians receive between 60% and 70% of collected fees, with the maximum split occurring when they average 15 or more sessions per week.
This structure allows clinicians to increase their earnings as their caseload grows while preserving flexibility when personal needs, time away, or changing circumstances affect their availability.
Clinicians may also choose to reserve up to two reduced-fee openings on their caseload. These sessions are offered at an established fee of $30–$50, and the clinician retains 100% of the amount collected.
This is a 1099 independent-contractor position and does not include employee benefits.

You may be a good fit if you:

Have experience providing individual therapy to adolescents, teens, or adults
Practice from a trauma-informed perspective
Understand and value neurodiversity-affirming care

Are comfortable practicing independently while valuing consultation, connection, and collaborative problem-solving

Familiarity with polyvagal theory, somatic approaches, or nervous-system regulation is preferred. A sincere desire to learn is also valued, and practice-funded training opportunities may be available for interventions such as the Safe and Sound Protocol.
Carolinas Center is committed to cultivating a practice where clinicians and clients of diverse identities, backgrounds, abilities, genders, sexual orientations, and neurotypes are treated with dignity and respect.
We welcome applicants who share that commitment and who want to help create a clinical community in which people can be understood, connected, and fully themselves.
