Kendall Maurer, LCMHCA

Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate

Kendall Maurer therapist providing neurodivergent affirming therapy and ADHD support in Lake Norman NC

Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy spending time with my partner, family, and friends, caring for my cats, and sharing my love of coffee, Legos, and board games.

How I Think About Therapy

For many people, therapy begins with a simple but powerful experience: feeling truly accepted.

A lot of the adolescents and adults I work with have spent years feeling misunderstood or like they had to change parts of themselves in order to fit in. Therapy can be a place where that pressure begins to ease. My goal is to create a space where you can show up as you are and feel genuinely seen.

Much of my work is with neurodivergent adolescents and adults, including individuals with ADHD, autism, and sensory processing differences who want support understanding themselves and building lives that work with their brains rather than against them.

I approach this work from a neurodiversity-affirming perspective. Rather than trying to “fix” how someone’s mind works, I focus on helping clients understand themselves better and build lives that support who they already are.

Connection, authenticity, and feeling comfortable enough to be yourself are at the heart of the work we do together.

What To Expect In Our Work Together

In sessions with me you can expect a welcoming, relaxed space where authenticity and comfort are prioritized.

I work collaboratively with clients and meet them where they are. For some people that means talking things through; for others it may involve more creative or interactive ways of exploring experiences. I often incorporate art, games, Legos, fidgets, or other tools that help people feel comfortable and engaged in the process.

Many clients appreciate that sessions can feel natural and flexible rather than formal or rigid. Humor, warmth, and curiosity are all welcome in the room, and my goal is to help clients feel safe enough to be fully themselves.

The Importance of Fit

You might find working with me helpful if…

  • You are neurodivergent or exploring ADHD, autism, or sensory processing differences, and want support navigating school, identity, relationships, or burnout

  • You have often felt misunderstood or like you had to hide parts of yourself to be accepted

  • School, relationships, or life expectations feel difficult to navigate in ways that others may not fully understand

  • You are looking for therapy that is affirming of neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ identities

  • You prefer a therapist who is approachable, genuine, and not overly formal

  • You want therapy to feel like a space where you can relax, be yourself, and explore what works best for you
