Mental Health Counseling Interns
The Carolinas Center is committed to the training and professional development of future licensed clinicians. Under the direction of Dr. Justina Floyd, we are proud to partner with local universities to offer an internship experience for highly qualified master’s-level candidates.
Our interns are carefully selected and embody the qualities we value most as a practice: integrity, open-mindedness, and compassion. The internship program also allows for greater accessibility of mental health services to those who are under-insured or otherwise unable to afford treatment. Therapy is provided at $30 per session, regardless of your financial situation or insurance coverage.

Natalie Fountain (she/her) is pursuing her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She works with clients navigating trauma, identity, women’s issues, life transitions, and relationship concerns. Natalie is passionate about helping clients connect with their inner strengths, foster self-compassion, and create more balance in their lives.
Natalie’s therapeutic approach draws from evidence-based modalities that include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and narrative therapy. She brings a deep respect for each individual’s unique worldview and lived experiences, working to create a safe, supportive space where clients can explore challenges, heal, and grow. Natalie tailors her counseling style to each person’s needs and values, helping them understand how early experiences influence present patterns while empowering clients to learn from the past without being defined by it. Natalie is being supervised by our training director, Dr. Justina Floyd.
Sydnie Hawkins is pursuing her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is passionate about working with clients who have experienced trauma, relationship struggles, and dissociation. Sydnie views unhealed trauma as a collection of disintegrated pieces that contribute to confusion, pain, and struggles within relationships with yourself and others. Healing from trauma means going on a journey to integrate these experiences and ultimately feel empowered and in control.
Syndie integrates therapeutic techniques from a variety of modalities to help clients understand, regulate, and communicate their experiences more effectively. She is particularly drawn to somatic experiencing, attachment theory, internal family systems, and acceptance and commitment therapy.
Sydnie is a Covid-continuous practitioner. For her safety and that of all clients, she routinely wears a mask in session. Clients are invited to, though not required to, do the same. Sydnie is supervised by Dr. Justina Floyd, Carolinas Center Training Director.
